Conference Topics

The conference program will include both plenary sessions and concurrent sessions and workshops, to be held on Friday, August 25th. Prospective speakers are encouraged to submit abstracts on topics relating to automobile culture in the Rocky Mountain West. Examples might include presentations on historic automobile tourist roads (such as the Corley Mountain Highway, Crystal Park Auto Road, or Pikes Peak Auto Road, among many others regionally), western tourist facilities (chain restaurants, gas stations or motels found in the western U.S.), diners in the west, "Ghost Town" theme parks, tourism sites that focus on Native American themes, etc. Although the conference will focus on western tourism, topics generally related to the 20th century commercial landscape are also welcome. Christmas theme parks and the gift shop phenomenon are subjects of particular interest.

Presentation Proposals

To propose a conference presentation, please submit a typewritten abstract of no more than 250 words. More than one abstract may be submitted. Provide the following information for each abstract: title of presentation, name of speaker, occupation, business mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address, and text of abstract. Include a brief resume (two pages maximum). Typical presentation length will be 25 minutes. Two guiding principles should be employed in preparing a presentation: 1) make it visual; and 2) make it fun.
