"Drivin'
the Dixie: Automobile Tourism in the South"
Ca. 1925 Tichnor Brothers postcard. Inscription on the back of card reads:
"The Cherokee Tourist Camp is located two miles north of Chattanooga on Dixie Highway, numbers 27 and 29. This camp is modern throughout. It is equipped with hot shower baths, rest rooms, grocery store, lunch room, and cottages completely furnished. A room for two can be had at $1.50 per day. There are also outdoor camping grounds for those with their own tents. The rate for this is 50 cents a day. The camp is lighted each night. It is a small city in itself."Unlike the Cherokee Service Station, the Cherokee Tourist Camp--including the hipped roof building in the postcard--still exist, albeit in altered form, as the Cherokee Motel.
