Tour 1: All Aboard for the Future! A Tour of Century 21
Climb aboard the historic Monorail
and cruise to the Century 21 Fair Grounds with your special historian
conductors. Once at the fairgrounds, we ascend the Space Needle, Seattle's
most iconic landmark. A great gift shop with Century 21 memorabilia awaits
us at the bottom. We enjoy lunch at Frank Gehry's Experience
Music Project, an amazing tribute to Jimi Hendrix. Then the World's
Fair historian leads us on an insider's tour of the center - visiting
the Federal Science Pavilion of Yamasaki (architect of the World Trade
Center), the historic amusement park, public art, and much more. Take
the Monorail back downtown for dinner on your own.

8:00 - 10:00 pm

3: Spending Time on 99
Highway 99 was the expressway to adventure in the pre-Interstate age -
north to Canada, out to the forests and mountains or south to golden California.
It was the major north-south arterial during the Fair era and its fading
motor courts, drive-in restaurants, and roadside culture capture the spirit
of an age when the family automobile offered a window to the world. This
tour starts at Everett and heads south for Seattle and Tacoma, with two
historians of the highway guiding our way, with plenty of stops at favorite
roadside attractions along the way including lunch at the legendary Dick's
Drive-In on its 50th birthday.

The conference headquarters will be the Hotel Ändra, located at 2000 4th Avenue, in the heart of downtown Seattle, within an easy walk of Pike Place Market, Belltown, and the Monorail at Westlake Center. A block of rooms is being held at the Hotel Ändra for the SCA for a nightly rate of $149 to $169. Make reservations by calling Hotel Ändra toll-free at 877-448-8600; be sue to identify yourself as an SCA attendee.

Seattle is a popular destination in the summer, so you are encouraged to make your reservations early. For alternate accommodations, contact the Seattle Convention and Visitor's Bureau.
Most major airlines offer flights to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Downtown Seattle hotels are an approximately 25-minute drive from SeaTac, including the Hotel Ändra, which can be reached by the Gray Line Airporter Shuttle Service ($11 each way, by Shuttle Express, or by cab (Approximately $30). Amtrak has regular service into King Street Station in downtown Seattle.
The bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle goes the song, and while that is not always true it is always sunny and mild through much of the late summer. You can expect sunshine and afternoon temperatures in the low 80s, with cooler evening, particularly on the waterfront. And while August is the dry season, be prepared for some rain - it's Seattle, after all.
SCA Commemorative T-shirts featuring the conference logo are offered. There will be a limited supply so you are encouraged to order in advance. Unsold shirts will be available for purchase on Friday, August 20, at the paper session.
